About the IFAF Flag Football World Championship

The IFAF Flag Football World Championship is an international flag football competition contested by the men's and women's national teams of the member nations of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF). The tournament is held every four years, with the first edition taking place in 2002.

History of the IFAF Flag Football World Championship

The IFAF Flag Football World Championship was first held in 2002 in Kanagawa, Japan and was known as the "World Cup of Flag Football". The United States won the inaugural men's championship, while Canada won the women's championship. The tournament was held again in 2006 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and in 2010 in Ottawa, Canada.

In 2014, the tournament was renamed the "IFAF Flag Football World Championship" and was held in Nassau, Bahamas. The United States won the men's championship again, while Canada won the women's championship for the second time. The tournament was held again in 2018 in Panama City, Panama, and in 2022 in Jerusalem, Israel.

Format of the IFAF Flag Football World Championship

The IFAF Flag Football World Championship is a knockout tournament. The tournament is divided into two pools, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the semifinals. The winners of the semifinals advance to the championship game, while the losers of the semifinals play in the third-place game.
